Coventry City Council unveils Broadgate plans
Coventry City Council (CCC) has unveiled plans for a major redevelopment of Broadgate - the city centre's main public square - ahead of the 2012 Olympics.
Part of a wider £7m scheme to improve the setting of city buildings, the square will feature more trees, include a new grassed area and will be free from traffic. CCC leader John Mutton said: "There was also a call for us to make it as green as possible - so we have included as many trees as we can - which will be planted in the ground rather than in movable pots.
"The new square will have lots of seating and we will arrange it sensibly so it is set up to enable people to be sociable and to talk to each other."
