Childwall Sports College in Liverpool has opened a new sports centre aimed at attracting not both students and the general public.
The £1.4m facility comprises a new dance studio and a fitness centre featuring resistance and cardiovascular machines developed by youth gym equipment company Shokk.
Specialist dance sessions are being offered as part of the college’s physical education programme.
In addition, the sports facility includes four new outdoor changing rooms and a new drainage system has been installed for the school playing fields, so that the school and the local community can use the pitches throughout the year.
Headteacher Dewi Phillips said: “The health and well-being of young people is central to our work as a sports college. We are committed to the philosophy that by improving the health of our students through physical activity and healthy eating, we can support their desire to achieve the highest educational standards. These fantastic new facilities will help us achieve this.”
Childwall Sports College, Liverpool City Council, the Big Lottery Fund and the Football Foundation funded the project, which has taken two years to complete. Details: www.liverpool.gov.uk
