Cash boost for Highlanders' Museum scheme
Plans for the redevelopment of The Highlanders' Museum, near Inverness, have received £200,000 from Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE).
Located at Fort George, the attraction explores the history of all army regiments from the Highlands and Islands from the Battle of Culloden to the present day. A £3m redevelopment scheme is being proposed for The Highlanders' Museum, which aims to transform the attraction into an interactive learning and education venue.
According to an independent economic impact assessment, the project will help generate an extra £400,000 for the local economy and support the equivalent of eight new full time jobs. The Highlanders' Museum chair Major General Seymour Monro said: "This endorsement of our plans has taken our fundraising appeal over the half way mark, which gives us confidence that the project will go ahead."
