When Aberdeen Sports Village set out to upgrade its gym offering, the goal was to create a more motivating, versatile and high-performing training environment for its diverse member base.
With users ranging from first-time gym members to competitive athletes, the facility required a solution that could support a wide range of training styles while maximising floor space and improving the overall member experience.
BLK BOX worked closely with the team to design and deliver a complete strength and conditioning environment that balances performance, durability and functionality.
Built around a custom strength solution
At the heart of the refurbishment is a fully customised BLK BOX strength and storage system designed to maximise training capacity while maintaining a clean, organised layout.
The centrepiece of the installation is a bespoke seven Bay BLK BOX 5 Series Compact Rack with integrated Smith Machine functionality, providing members with multiple training stations within a compact footprint. Paired with an eight Bay BLK BOX 5 Series Nexus Storage Rack, the system creates a central training hub where equipment storage and performance training work seamlessly together.
Additional attachments including spotting arms, landmine stations, lat pulldown and low row functionality expand the versatility of the setup, allowing users to perform a wide range of strength movements without requiring multiple standalone machines.
Premium strength equipment for every user
The facility features a wide range of BLK BOX barbells, including Belfast Bars, Ladies Belfast Bars, an Open Hex Bar, Multi Grip Bar and Curl Bar, alongside HD Bumper Plates with GripX and Dual Grip Plates.
Members also have access to a complete range of Premium Urethane Dumbbells, Rubber Hex Dumbbells and Premium Cast Iron Kettlebells, providing flexibility across strength, conditioning and rehabilitation programmes.
Purpose-built storage solutions throughout the facility ensure equipment remains accessible while helping maintain a clean and organised training environment.
Creating eedicated functional training zones
As training trends continue to evolve, flexibility within gym spaces has become increasingly important.
To support this, BLK BOX incorporated a range of functional training equipment and dedicated training areas that allow users to move beyond traditional machine-based workouts.
The facility now includes:
- Custom Turf lanes
- Dog Sleds
- Competition Sandbags
- Wall Balls and target stations
- Soft 3-in-1 Plyo Boxes
- Battle Ropes
- Dedicated mobility and floor exercise equipment
- A custom-branded turf track featuring Aberdeen Sports Village branding creates a visually striking training zone while supporting conditioning, athletic development and functional fitness sessions.
Designed for longevity
Every element of the installation was selected with durability and long-term performance in mind.
From the stainless steel custom rack systems to the premium free weights and heavy-duty flooring solutions, the facility has been equipped to withstand the demands of a busy training environment while maintaining its appearance and functionality for years to come.
The addition of custom lifting platforms, impact-resistant flooring and integrated storage further enhances the user experience while protecting the facility's investment.
