Bromley leisure services receive positive Best Value report
The London borough of Bromley has received a glowing report from the Audit Commission in a recently conducted Best Value assessment.
The leisure facilities in the borough, many of which are run by DC Leisure, were labelled as 'excellent', with 'promising prospects for improvement'.
Bromley is the largest London borough, with a population of over 300,000.
The leisure service includes four main leisure facilities, five dual-use facilities, three golf courses and the national sports centre at Crystal Palace.
The report acknowledged long-term strategies and investment plans, as well as good partnerships with outside agencies and stakeholders, as part of a commitment to continued good service.
The review did, however, raise concerns at the proposal for a trust to take over the leisure service and issues surrounding Crystal Palace: 'The future of Crystal Palace remains unresolved. A number of mixed views are apparent within the council concerning financial support, which adds uncertainty to the site's future'.
The Audit Commission recommended that dialogue be continued with Sport England to decide a commitment from the council.
