Bristol's Cabot Tower reopens after revamp
Bristol's iconic Cabot Tower has reopened its doors to the public, following the completion of a £400,000 programme of work to restore and repair the Grade II-listed building.
Constructed between 1896 and 1898 to mark the 400th anniversary of John Cabot's voyage from the city to America in 1497, the attraction was forced to close in November 2007. However, work has now been carried out to identify the cause of cracking in the masonry, as well as to stabilise and to restore earthworks and fortifications at the foot of the tower.
Simon Cartlidge Architects and Nimbus Conservation worked on the project, which secured funding from Bristol City Council and English Heritage.
