Blackstone acquires Legoland parks
American investment firm Blackstone Group has acquired the Legoland theme parks portfolio from its owner, Danish toy manufacturer Lego.
The £259m deal includes all four Legoland sites – in Germany, England, Denmark and California – and the 176-room Legoland hotel adjacent to the theme park in the Danish town of Billund.
Last month, Blackstone acquired Merlin Entertainments and now plans to merge the two to form one of the largest visitor attraction businesses in Europe with around 12 million visitors a year.
Joseph Baratta, managing director of Blackstone, said: “We have been able to execute very quickly our strategy of building a leading theme park and attractions business in Europe.
“The combination of Legoland and Merlin creates a unique assett in the leisure industry.”
