About Leisure Energy Ltd
About us
Leisure Energy is an award-winning renewable technology company, energy consultancy, and principal contractor. We specialise in identifying, designing, and delivering comprehensive energy and sustainability solutions, supporting both public and private leisure sectors on their journey to full decarbonisation and electrification.

We are leading the sector’s transition to net zero for leisure facilities, providing fully managed, end-to-end integrated solutions. Our approach combines innovative design with pioneering technology to maximise efficiency, performance, and long-term sustainability.

Our team brings together highly qualified professionals from the leisure, energy, and engineering sectors. This multidisciplinary expertise gives us a unique understanding of the complex demands of leisure and pool environments, enabling us to deliver tailored, high-impact solutions for our clients.

Background
Founded in 2014 by Graham Clarkson, who had a vision to enable leisure and sports facilities to become more sustainable, through lowering the carbon footprint and reduce costs - we were doing this when it was less cool!

The company is wholly owned by the chairman and directors.

Main products and services
We provide a comprehensive, end-to-end service that supports clients throughout the full decarbonisation/electrification journey of their buildings—from energy surveys, feasibility studies, and strategic decarbonisation planning through to detailed design, construction, and ongoing aftercare and maintenance.

Our products include the installation of solar PV systems, Building Energy Management systems, pool pumps, air conditioning systems and our innovative, high-efficiency heat pump solution; the Net Zero Pod (NZP). The NZP is an external prefabricated packaged plant room designed to replace or integrate with existing heating systems making the transition to low-carbon buildings more practical and cost-effective.

Our product differs from conventional energy installations primarily due to its modular prefabricated, "packaged plant room" design combined with the use of a highly efficient R744 (CO₂) natural refrigerant. The result delivering a low Global Warming Potential of 1 (GWP) and Seasonal Co-efficient of Performance (sCOP) of 4+ (meaning that for every 1 unit of energy input at least 4 units of heat are generated). The ASHP system has been specifically engineered for leisure facilities and swimming pools.

Being a packaged plant room with all the technology inside the NZP, our solution minimises the need for extensive modifications within interior plant rooms and existing infrastructure of the leisure facility.

Our true differentiator for the sector is that we truly understand the operational requirements and customer expectations in public leisure centres and private clubs. Almost always, there is no building shut-down, minimal impact on the customer experience, delivered in a live operating environment ensuring no loss of income.

"The Council’s journey with Leisure Energy started back in 2023 in the undertaking of Energy and Sustainability Surveys across each of the leisure facilities. This highlighted the art of possible at each facility with anticipated costs and associated carbon savings. Since then the Council have worked closely with Leisure Energy developing trusted relationships supporting funding applications and delivering efficiency improvements to not only benefit the Council and its leisure operator, but also improve the experience of the customers using its facilities. The team at Leisure Energy are always on hand to answer any questions or queries with nothing ever being too much trouble.

"Installation of the new Net Zero Pod in early 2026 alongside supporting upgrades to air handling units and other infrastructure will transform GMLC’s energy performance, carbon footprint and financial resilience, with a projected energy cost reduction of £170k and over 500 tonnes of carbon annually. During the construction phase of the project, additional efficiencies were also identified to reduce the baseload consumption of GMLC by upgrading the six pool circulation pumps. Our project has reshaped how SKDC approaches energy and asset management: by addressing energy use alongside decarbonisation, SKDC has created a pathway to lower operating costs and cut carbon emissions."
– Michael Chester, leisure parks & open spaces team leader, South Kesteven District Council
"As Cotgrave LC is one of our biggest carbon emitting buildings within Rushcliffe Borough Council’s portfolio, we needed to act imminently, working with Leisure Energy to come up with a solution to decarbonise the site with a successful PSDS bid to help fund this.

"Thanks to the carefully designed, installed and now running Net Zero Pod, we are already seeing savings in running costs on site along with not burning natural gas, which is set to save 100s of tonnes of CO2 a year. Not only this, the site remains lovely and warm, the pool great to swim in and the public continuing to enjoy the centre as a hub".
– Edward Leddy-Owen, team manager - environment, Rushcliffe Borough Council
"Leisure Energy have provided an excellent service in delivering the energy saving projects at Burntwood Leisure Centre. From the outset when assisting with the application for the Public Sector Decarbonisation Grant, throughout the development phase and during installation, they have worked professionally with the Council."
