GreenSpace is urging its members and supporters to actively take part in the Big Lottery Fund’s (BIG) three-month public consultation.
The ‘big thinking’ event aims to give individuals and organisations across the UK the chance to have their say on the charity’s £2bn funding programme over the next six years.
A series of national, regional and local face-to-face events and online channels such as questionnaires, blogs and videos will gather opinions until 27 February. A summary of the consultation responses will be published this summer.
Sir Clive Booth, UK chair of BIG, explained: “We must ensure that BIG can make the best possible contribution to communities and people most in need over the next six years.
“We want to hear from you how Lottery funding can best benefit communities. Make your voices heard and help influence where Lottery money goes.”
The parks charity is now calling on community groups and local authorities to make the most of this opportunity by explicitly conveying how BIG’s £150m investment over the last three years has helped to establish improved parks and green spaces for the benefit of communities.
By communicating what has been achieved thus far, it is hoped that future investment in parks and green spaces will be secured.
GreenSpace’s 2007 Park Life survey reported that 83 per cent of respondents viewed their parks and green spaces as being a focal point for their communities, while research by MORI — on behalf of CABE Space —showed that 91 per cent of residents believe that public parks and open spaces improve the quality of their lives.
