1000 learn to swim with ACL each week
ACL has reached a milestone for swimming lessons at Newmarket Leisure Centre in the week the charity celebrates its third year in business (1 July) and everything is going swimmingly.
Newmarket Leisure Centre's Swimming Pool, which opened in January 2009, has successfully taken over from the old Newmarket Pool and numbers being taught to swim each week have grown from 342 pupils to 1000.
The popular Swimfit programme accommodates all ages and abilities and swimmers with special needs are readily accepted into mainstream lessons.
Tony Bass, chief executive of ACL, says: "Numbers attending our classes have risen steadily as the pool has developed an excellent reputation and is now attracting many swimmers who are coming from other swimming lesson providers. Parents have been contacting the centre as friends and family have recommended the lessons saying how well they are run and how we put the swimmers' needs first. This proves our belief that the town had been crying out for a top new swimming facility and we are delighted that people from Newmarket and beyond are putting it to such good use."
