The case for and against barefoot running
The case for and against barefoot running is examined in the latest issue of Health Club Management magazine.
Although barefoot running shoes only make up 10-15 per cent of sports shoe sales, it's a fast growing sector and experts claim many people turn to barefoot running as a result of injury due to heel striking in conventional running shoes.
However, those who are against it claim it simply leads to many runners developing a different set of injuries.
All agree that converting to barefoot running takes time and coaching in proper technique.
