Green light for new Banstead Leisure Centre
A new leisure centre for Banstead will incorporate a 25m, six-lane swimming pool after the project was given the green light by Reigate and Banstead Borough Council (RBBC).
The full council adopted a recommendation to develop the new Banstead Leisure Centre in Merland Rise, which had previously been agreed by the executive last week. Wet facilities - also including a 13m x 7m teaching pool - are to be included in the scheme, despite being initially axed in November 2010 after a review of council investment plans.
Other facilities at the £6.6m leisure centre will feature a 50-station fitness suite; a 30-person exercise studio; separate wet and dry changing areas; a café and a crèche. RBBC executive member for health communities Adam De Save said: "We have listened to what is important to local residents when drawing up these recommendations."
