The Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity
(CIMSPA) has announced new plans for a business review of the Institute, in
preparation for its new governance structure as required by its new charter.
Two leisure centres in Worcester, England have been saved from cuts after being
handed over to a county-based trust to run their affairs. If given council approval, The Wychavon
Leisure Trust will take over from Wychavon District Council this October in a two-year deal.
There has been a four-fold increase in the number of children admitted to hospital for problems
related to obesity in England and Wales between 2000 and 2009. In 2009 there were 3,806 children
admitted to hospital for obesity-related conditions - compared with a mere 872 in 2000.
Sports Leisure Management (SLM) has won the contract to run leisure and cultural services owned by
Cotswold District Council. The 10-year deal includes leisure centres at Cirencester, Chipping
Campden and Bourton on the Water. To be operated under SLM's Everyone Active brand, the three
centres bring the total number of venues managed by SLM to 81
A new pool is set to open to the public on 22 June on the island of Orkney. The new Pickaquoy Centre
in Kirkwell will include a six lane, 25-metre pool, fitted with a moveable floor as well as a teaching
