Fitness First Group has announced plans to spend more than Rs160 crores (US$26m, €21m, £16.4m) on its expansion in India, to open 30 new premium fitness clubs in Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore in the next five years.

Fitness First has appointed David Anderson as chief marketing officer to lead the latest phase of its brand transformation. Anderson is thought to have impressed group CEO Andy Cosslett during the pair’s time together at hotel chain InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG).

Fitness First has announced it will invest more than US$140m (€101m, £83m) over the next five years as it bids to grow its footprint in Asia by around 60 per cent.

Global fitness operator Fitness First believes it has unlocked the key to motivation and is investing approximately £270m (US$445m, €329m) over the next three years in bringing its global estate in line with its new philosophy.

Health club operator Fitness First has completed its restructuring, following a turbulent two-year period during which the privately-owned group has struggled under a burden of debt. Announcing its full year results for 2011, Andy Cosslett, CEO, said: "It's no secret that 2011 was a difficult year for us."
