PRESS RELEASE

Swim England announces collaboration with Hydrohex

01 May 2026
Swim England and Hydrohex / Hydrohex

Swim England has announced a new partnership with Hydrohex, an established and  innovative virtual aqua fitness platform.

Delivering immersive aquatic workout experiences, Hydrohex enables pool owners and operators to offer engaging water-based activity during flexible and off-peak times. The future-ready solution is designed to complement, not replace, aquatic instructors by giving operators a way to run aqua classes delivered entirely by an on-screen virtual instructor, in slots and at sites where live instructor capacity isn't available.

As well as helping to fill programming gaps and make more effective use of pool space, Hydrohex’s virtual classes focus on activity in the water rather than swimming technique. Offering strength, cardio and dance‑based workouts, the classes provide low‑impact options that are accessible to a wide range of participants, including elderly adults and individuals managing long‑term conditions or injuries.

This relationship will mean Swim England pool operators and owner partners can access an exclusive offer on Hydrohex’s products through Swim England as part of its sector‑leading Business Solutions range. Business Solutions brings together practical tools, insight and expert support to help pool owners and operators identify growth opportunities, address operational challenges and support the long‑term sustainability of their facilities.

Alongside its recognised products and awards, Swim England’s dedicated Business Engagement Managers work closely with partners to identify gaps and opportunities that can help broaden participation and diversify or evolve pool programming. Through Business Solutions, Swim England introduces credible, needs‑led solutions that respond to real challenges facing the sector. Hydrohex will be introduced as one such solution where it aligns with the specific needs of operators.

“We know that pool owners and operators are facing real challenges, from workforce pressures to changing consumer expectations, and our role as the National Governing Body is to add value to our partners and help identify practical solutions that support sustainable growth,” said Rebecca Cox, business engagement director at Swim England.

“This partnership with Hydrohex reflects our commitment to helping more people have great experiences in the water, while supporting our partners to make effective use of their pool space and programmes. Hydrohex offers a future‑ready option that helps fill programming gaps, supports the vital role of aquatic professionals, and enables more people to enjoy meaningful, accessible aquatic activity".

Tommi Wallenius, CEO at Hydrohex, said: "There's a clearly under-served audience for water-based fitness, particularly older adults and women 50+ who want regular activity but often can't find aqua classes at the times they can attend. Across 38 UK operator sites running Hydrohex, the pattern is consistent: where operators add the right programming at the right times, this audience materialises and stays. 91% of regular users attend Hydrohex six or more times a month, and 49% would cancel their leisure-centre membership entirely if the programme were removed.

“We’re proud to be partnering with Swim England to promote Hydrohex virtual classes, giving pool operators a credible route to expand aqua programming where workforce constraints have held them back. We’re committed to working closely with Swim England to bring Hydrohex to network partners where it fits, without conflicting with existing live aqua offering.”
