£1.9m HLF grant for Weald Forest
The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) has allocated a £1.9m grant towards the regeneration of Weald Forest Ridge in High Weald.
The funding comes from HLF's Landscape Partnership Scheme, and will be used to widen access to the forest ridge and its three other medieval hunting forests, set within the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. As well as Ashdown and St Leonard Forest, Broadwater Warren forest – which dates back to the Middle Ages – will undergo one of the largest heathland restoration projects in South East England.
Councillor Sylvia Tidy, chair of the High Weald Joint Advisory Committee, said: "The funds will enable the Weald Forest Ridge Landscape Partnership to deliver its vision for the Weald Forest Ridge. The Ridge’s landscape and cultural heritage will enhance the quality of life for local people and visitors alike.”
