£10.3m funding boost for Aberystwyth
Efforts to regenerate Aberystwyth over the next three years have been handed a £10.3m funding boost from the Welsh Assembly Government.
The town will receive £1.5m for the first year of a new programme to transform the town, which has been designated as a Strategic Regeneration Area (SRA) by the assembly government. Five main issues will be targeted as part of a fully-integrated plan led by the Welsh Assembly Government and Ceredigion County Council, including the seafront and promenade.
Other aims include improving housing; employment and business growth; tackling economic activity and the development of modes of sustainable travel under the SRA approach. Welsh deputy minister for housing and regeneration Jocelyn Davies said: "The programme will work to complement and add value to existing and planned activities which already contribute towards the regeneration of Aberystwyth and make the town a better place to live and visit."
