Phytomer releases Oligoperformance serum with marine exosomes to combat oxidative stress

As we are all affected by this oxidative stress, we wanted to create a formula that doesn’t just care for the skin on the surface, but supports it in defending itself every single day
– Dr Céline Laperdrix, research and innovation director, Phytomer

French marine skincare and spa brand Phytomer has released a serum called Oligoperformance that features marine exosomes, or “messenger cells”, which the brand says fight against oxidative stress suffered by the skin.

Wrinkles, loss of firmness and dark spots are attributed to free radicals (highly reactive and unstable molecules) that oxidise skin cells. These molecules are often seen as a result of exposure to UV rays, stress, pollution and smoking.

The new Oligoperformance serum uses exosomes from an ancient blue microalgae called Phormidium persicinum to stimulate antioxidant molecule thioredoxin, which activates cells’ repair systems.

According to the brand, the marine exosomes help to protect collagen and elastin fibres, and they also reduce carbonylation, the oxidation of skin proteins as a result of exposure to UV rays.

The formula also includes a firming ingredient of red coral that is said to revitalise fibroblasts within the skin, boosting collagen and redensifying the dermis.

Sea lily and Vitamin B are also present in the serum to target dark spots for a more even complexion.

Dr Céline Laperdrix, research and innovation director, Phytomer, told Spa Business: “Today, our skin is subjected to unprecedented stress from environmental factors such as pollution, UV radiation, screen exposure, sleep deprivation and lifestyle-related stress.

“As we are all affected by this oxidative stress, we wanted to create a formula that doesn’t just care for the skin on the surface, but supports it in defending itself every single day,” added Laperdrix.

“Marine Exosomes, derived from a remarkable ancestral blue microalgae, are at the heart of this innovation, with an extraordinary concentration,” she said. “There are thirty million Marine Exosomes in every 30ml bottle. This powerful antioxidant molecule, which is naturally found in the skin, is capable of reactivating the cellular repair system. As a result, this antioxidant serum is both a preventing and correcting one, helping protect against free-radical damage while preserving the skin’s youthfulness and firmness.”

The 30ml retail dropper bottle costs €88, including tax, and the 50ml professional dropper bottle costs €60.50, excluding tax.
