Working together for fitness
Competition Line has worked with Life Fitness and Escape Fitness to create a Lifestyle Fitness gym at the new £12.3m Freeman’s Quay Leisure Centre.
Located in the heart of the city of Durham, the centre features a 130-station Lifestyle Fitness gym, a brand owned by Competition Line, which contributed £2.2m towards the project.
The gym offers a wide variety of equipment suitable for people of all abilities. This includes the new Life Fitness Engage cross-trainers from the Elevation Series and Inspire treadmills featuring iPod® docking and the Virtual Trainer. Users of the latter can select a male or female trainer who appears on the integrated LCD screen and advises them on every aspect of their training from describing the programmes to updating them on their progress.
Staff also received a three-day REPs accredited training course from the Life Fitness Academy.
Escape Fitness has supplied a range of free weights and functional equipment as well as a Reaction Trainer, which comprises three vertical poles each equipped with sensors and lights. Users hit the foam pads following the lights and sounds for an engaging full body workout.
The gym, which has a target membership of 3,000, also features equipment from other suppliers to ensure it meets the needs of all users.
In addition to the gym, the centre offers a 25m, eight-lane pool; learner pool; a tepidarium; dance studio; a four court multi-use sports hall, a healthy food court and an internet café.
