Work to start on new West Sussex cycle route
West Sussex County Council (WSCC) has announced that work will start on the development of a new £296,000 cycle route in West Wittering on 3 September.
The route will run between Wellsfield and Cakeham Manor House and is also designed to accommodate pedestrians along part of the B2179 road where no foot provision currently exists. West Wittering Parish Council and the FG Woodger Trust - a charity set up to improve the quality of life for people living in the area - are funding the 1km (0.6-mile) path, which will take 16 weeks to complete.
WSCC cycling champion Derek Whittington said: "This scheme will improve conditions in the area for cyclists and pedestrians, steering them off-road away from traffic and a narrow B-road."
