WVU starts work on Evansdale scheme
West Virginia University (WVU), US, has held a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the start of work on Evandsale recreation fields - part of the institution's wider strategic plan.
The scheme will include a synthetic soccer field; a natural grass soccer field; and five tennis courts - both hard surface and lighted, as well as a limestone walking trail. It forms part of WVU's US$8.4m (£5.1m, EUR5.7m) Strategic Recreation Plan, which will also include installations at Mylan Park and the Medical Center.
The recreation plan itself is also part of a US$27m (£16.3m, EUR18.4m) project that boasts a new wellness centre for the university, which aims to cater for a growth in club sports. WVU vice president of student affairs Ken Gray said: "We believe it is important for students to keep physically fit, develop leadership skills, sportsmanship and learn how to function as a member of a team through participation in general recreation activities."
