Two treasure hoards secured for the nation
The Art Fund and the National Heritage Memorial Fund (NHMF) have announced that two iconic treasure hoards have been secured for the nation.
More than 52,000 silver and bronze Roman coins that comprise the £320,250 Frome Hoard will be handed to the Museum of Somerset, following a £294,000 NHMF grant. Meanwhile, a collection of four Iron Age gold Torcs - dating back to between the 1st and 3rd centuries BC - has been saved for the National Museum of Scotland.
Art Fund director Stephen Deuchar said: "Both the Roman coins in Somerset and Torcs in Scotland are going to absolutely the right places where generations can learn, enjoy and be inspired by them."
