London’s tourism industry has received a boost with news that the capital has been voted Britain’s top visitor destination in the Condé Nast Traveller 2005 awards.

London last topped the poll in 2000 as Britain’s favourite UK city and, last year, was placed 10th.

Of the nine voting sectors, the capital scored highest for accommodation, culture, food and entertainment. London was also voted the third friendliest city in the UK, behind Cardiff and Newcastle, fifth in the safety category and eighth in terms of value for money.

However, voting, which was completed in May, before the July terrorist attacks on the city.

Visit London’s chief executive, James Bidwell, said: “This is fantastic news and confirms that London is the most exciting city for culture, entertainment and for generally enjoying yourself.
