TS Eliot seafront shelter listed
A seafront shelter in Margate, Kent, which is where poet TS Eliot is thought to have written The Waste Land, has been awarded Grade II-listed status by culture secretary Ben Bradshaw.
In a 1921 letter to novelist Sydney Schiff, the poet revealed he had written a rough draft of part III of the iconic poem while sat in the Nayland Rock shelter located on the town's promenade overlooking Margate Sands. English Heritage's director for heritage protection, Peter Beacham, said: "[The shelter] has a very important historical association with TS Eliot, the nation's much-loved poet. English Heritage is happy to join in with the poetry of life."
