Four new sites have been added to the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The quartet includes Sydney Opera House in Australia, the Red Fort in India, the Iwami Ginzan Silver Mine in Japan and the Parthian Fortresses of Nisa in Turkmenistan.
Sydney Opera House has achieved world heritage status as an artistic monument accessible to the general public. Danish architect Jørn Utzon created the iconic building’s inventive and creative design in 1957.
The 17th century Red Fort Complex features an acclaimed set of apartments linked by a continuous water channel designed according to a harmonious blend of innovative Islamic principles to reflect paradise on Earth.
The Iwami Ginzan Silver Mine comprises the archaeological remains of large-scale mines, smelting and refining sites and settlements worked from the 16th to 20th centuries.
The fourth site, the Parthian Fortresses, is an area of unexcavated remains of an ancient civilization, including a Royal citadel.
