Swansea park in line for redevelopment
Swansea's Cwmdonkin Park could benefit from a major restoration project with the help of Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) support, subject to the approval of councillors.
Work could start on the overhaul of the park - one of the oldest municipal parks in Wales - next winter if Swansea Council's cabinet approves the project at its meeting on 10 March. The scheme has been awarded £820,000 by the Heritage Lottery Fund, while an additional £256,000 is available through a Sustainable Tourism Convergence Funding grant.
Plans would see the park's links with poet Dylan Thomas increased, while facilities aimed at developing the beauty spot as a tourism destination will also be improved. Swansea Council cabinet member for culture, recreation and tourism Graham Thomas said: "Cwmdonkin Park will be restored as a wonderful green site and developed as a heritage and visitor destination centre in Swansea."
