Scotland is getting active at work
Think Fitness, in Hawick, on the Scottish Borders, has become the first gym in Scotland to deliver the FIA’s Active at Work programme, designed to improve employees’ wellbeing.
The programme addresses three major issues – the fact that Scotland has the second highest level of obesity in the developed world; almost 25 per cent of men and 20 per cent of women in Scotland are obese; and that inactivity, obesity and obesity-related diseases cost Scotland over £171m a year of public money.
The club is providing 50 employees from two local companies, Hawick Knitwear and Emtelle, with a 12-week activity programme at Think Fitness.
Greg Dalgleish, co-owner of Think Fitness, said: “The local firms’ involvement in this programme is a demonstration of their commitment to help their employees develop a healthier lifestyle.”
Group classes available to participants include aerobics, Easy Line circuit training and Spinning. A three-month trial membership to Think Fitness is also included in the scheme.
