Santas on the run
Christmas may be just around the corner, but it's coming even earlier to Cudworth, when Barnsley Premier Leisure hosts the first ever Santa Fun Run at the Dorothy Hyman Sports Centre on Sunday 29 November.
As part of raising money for the Laura Crane Trust, a charity that supports young people who have been diagnosed with cancer, participants are being asked to dress up in Santa outfits and run one mile around the athletics track at the stadium, as part of raising as much money as possible for this worthwhile cause.
Sarah Hancock, regional events and community fundraiser for the Laura Crane Trust, explains: "We're really excited about this event, which is set to be fun for all the family. All the money that is raised will go towards buying presents for young children who have to spend Christmas Day in hospital. You don't need to be fit to take part and we are even providing the Santa outfits, so there's really no excuse not to get involved!"
The Laura Crane Trust is the only UK charity funding ongoing research, predominantly into cancer in teenagers and young adults (13-24 year-olds), where cancer often strikes in its rarer and more complex forms, often requiring harsh regimes of treatment in an attempt to save lives. The trust also funds various measures to improve the lives of these young cancer patients whilst they are undergoing treatment.
Simon Potter, manager of the Dorothy Hyman Sports Centre, said: "We are delighted to be involved in providing our stadium and facilities to make this event happen. It is such a worthy cause and we have already had a lot of interest from our staff and our gym and sports club members in getting involved. This event is about fun and fundraising and we want as many people as possible to get involved, so please contact ourselves or the charity to get signed up!"
Santa registration will open at 10am on Sunday 29th November, with the warm up starting at 11am. There is a £10 entrance fee which includes the Santa costume which participants can keep!
