Ritz-Carlton launches first Chinese resort

The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company has announced plans to open a 451-bed resort on Hainan Island, China, in 2008.
The Ritz-Carlton, Sanya will comprise three restaurants, a poolside bar and grill overlooking the lagoon and beach, a fitness centre and tennis courts, a signature Ritz Kids Club, a ballroom and a wedding chapel.
The resort’s spa will feature an aquatonic swimming pool and 20 private rooms offering beauty and therapy treatments.
Architect’s Wimberly Allison Tong & Goo are planning to design the resort in a U-shape, with each of the two wings housing 600sq ft (56sq m) of guest rooms, including 35 villas with individual plunge pools. Details: www.ritzcarlton.com
