Revised Denny town centre scheme approved
Falkirk Council has backed revised proposals for the transformation of Denny town centre, which has been scaled back as a result of the economic downturn.
The local authority will work alongside Henry Boot Developments on the scheme, which will see the Church Walk blocks demolished and a new library, retail space, foodstore and public library created. It is hoped the project will take six years to complete, although Falkirk Council has earmarked funding for the acquisition and demolition of the Church Walk properties between 2010-12.
Council leader Craig Martin said: "The council has always recognised the urgent need to regenerate Denny Town Centre and understands the community's concerns but the recession inevitably had an impact on our original proposals. "Strenuous efforts have been made to find appropriate approaches to allow this important project to be progressed and I am confident that we have secured the best possible solution for Denny in the current climate."
