Report underlines budget hotel sector growth
A study by Melvin Gold Consulting has found that the UK-branded budget hotel sector has grown by more than a third (35 per cent) since 2008.
According to the report, 20,000 budget rooms have been added the UK's offer and has seen branded budget accommodation secure 16 per cent of the domestic market share. The research - commissioned by Travelodge - has also projected that the sector will grow to around 225,000 rooms by 2030 and will squeeze out independent and mid-market brands.
Melvin Gold said: "Our latest findings reveal the branded budget sector is the most dynamic segment of the UK hotel industry."
