RFL reaffirms Celtic Crusaders support

The Rugby Football League (RFL) has announced that it will continue to work with Celtic Crusaders Rugby League Football Club (CCRLFC) amid fears that the club is suffering as a result of the recession.
Founded in 2005, the club is competing in the Super League for the first time after being awarded a three-year licence last year, but concerns have been raised over whether it can cope with the demands of full time rugby league. On 4 July, CCRLFC owner Leighton Samuel issued a statement in order to reaffirm his commitment to the club, while the RFL has announced that it will continue to support the South Wales-based outfit through the Clubs' Support Programme.
RFL director of development, Gary Tasker, said: "When the club's Super League licence was first approved the world was a very different place to what it is now and no-one at Celtic Crusaders could have anticipated many of the difficulties they have faced. "However, CCRLFC is in it for the long haul and we are determined to do what we can to help them find additional investors. We are trying to establish a Super League club outside the traditional rugby league heartland, which would have been a tough ask at any time, never mind in the depths of a worldwide recession."
