The Register has commissioned Leisure-net Solutions and Dr Melvyn Hillsdon to undertake a research to determine the actual number of exercise professionals practising in the UK.
Various attempts have been made in the past, but this time the approach is being made using much broader and scientific methodology.
Preliminary results are expected by the end of February and a full report in March. The information is important for operators, training providers, Government planning and for the Register to measure its effectiveness.
There is no specific definition of an exercise professional, but the research will count all instructors, teachers, coaches and trainers in full, part-time and casual employment, from the military and uniformed services and volunteers.
