Public consultation for Luton pool plans
Members of the public have been invited to comment on proposals for a new multi-million pound aquatic centre in Luton, Bedfordshire as part of a consultation exercise.
Plans for the new facility in Stopsley are being reviewed by Luton Borough Council's (LBC) overview and scrutiny board in order to ensure the decision "transparent and accountable". An Olympic-sized swimming pool, a diving centre and a fitness suite are among plans for Luton Aquatic Centre unveiled in late 2008, with a task and finish review group having been set up to gather views from local residents.
According to the council, the complex aims to increase participation and help meet health improvement targets, as well as tackling low levels of satisfaction with existing facilities identified in local surveys. LBC's Sidney Rutstein said: "The Luton Aquatic Centre will potentially be a great asset to the town. While the decision to build the centre, and its location, has already been made, we need to hear about any concerns people across the town may have, so that we can consider them in making our recommendations to the administration."
The consultation closed on 11 May.
