Pontefract Castle to undergo upgrade

Improvement work is due to commence on the first phase of a scheme to help preserve Pontefract Castle in West Yorkshire.
Stage One of the project is designed to protect the remains from further deterioration as a result of winter weather, as well as replacing steps up to the keep. Wakefield Council is funding the scheme in conjunction with English Heritage and aims to 'unlock' the castle's potential as a heritage and tourism destination.
