Plans for an £8.5m, 100-bed hotel at Durham Tees Valley Airport in Durham have been given the green light by Darlington Borough Council.
The plans were submitted by Peel Holdings, a part of property and transport company Peel Group, which owns a 75 per cent share in the airport in partnership with local councils.
Peter de la Perrelle, director of Peel Holdings (Leisure) said “The three-star hotel will boast a bar, restaurant and meeting rooms and has 106 car parking spaces. The hotel will be Peel`s third airport hotel, following on from the 103 room Ramada Encore at Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield, which opened in November of this year and a new 160 room hotel at Liverpool John Lennon Airport due to open in Spring 2009.
"The hotel will be operated under a franchise agreement with a well known international brand to be announced shortly”.
The Peel Group consists of four divisions: The Trafford Centre in Manchester, Peel Land & Property, Peel Airports and Peel Ports.
