East Midlands Airport (EMA) near Castle Donington, Leicestershire, has announced a 4 per cent increase in the number of people travelling through the airport last year.
New figures released by the airport revealed that more than 5.6 million people used EMA during 2008, an increase of nearly 210,000 compared with the previous year.
However, despite 30 months of continued growth, the airport has warned that the recession has already started to cause a decline in passenger numbers during the last two months of 2008, a trend that is expected to continue.
Penny Coates, EMA managing director, said: "Despite the anticipated decline in passenger numbers during these challenging times, we remain committed to improving the customer experience and our facilities."
