Nottingham leisure centre revamp put back
The redevelopment of Harvey Hadden Leisure Centre in Nottingham, which was approved in 2004, has been delayed another year.
The City Council’s decision is a result of it prioritising the rebuild of the Victoria Leisure Centre instead.
A report to councillors said: “The Harvey Hadden scheme has been rephased into later years. An evaluation of the development costs relating to the Harvey Hadden Leisure Centre scheme is being undertaken and further reports will be presented to the board.”
The Nottingham Evening Post quoted the council’s director of sports, Hugh White, as saying: “Harvey Hadden was always planned to be the final piece of the jigsaw. The commitment to Harvey Hadden is still there.
“We are planning by the end of this year to commission a more detailed feasibility. We need to get other centres up and running, like [the new pool at the] Djanogly Academy, for when we decommission Beechdale and move the largest pool to Harvey Hadden."
The centre was originally supposed to open in 2006 as a swimming pool and sports centre.
The new-look Harvey Hadden centre is expected to open in 2013.
