New sports and culture jobs announced
Culture secretary Ben Bradshaw has confirmed plans to create 3,000 new jobs for young unemployed people within the culture and sports sectors as part of the Future Jobs Fund.
The latest announcement will take the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) past its target of 10,000 as part of the employment scheme, which aims to create 170,000 jobs for people aged between 18-24-years-old. More than 80 employers across the active leisure, health and fitness and sport sectors will be involved with the initiative, with the National Skills Academy for Sport and Active Leisure co-ordinating the 3,000 new positions.
Nearly 250 new jobs will be made available at the National Trust, with roles including gardening, conservation and visitor services at 70 sites across England and Wales. Meanwhile, 50 positions will be opened up as part of a project run by the Media Trust in London to offer communications posts at charities. Vacancies will include press office and magazine assistant roles.
Employment minister Jim Knight said: "We are determined to give young people the chance to develop skills and get that all important foot on the career ladder. "We have a deserved reputation for excellence in both these fields the world over and it is right that they play their part in helping young people."
