New operator for Daventry facilities
Local authority-owned leisure facilities in Daventry, Northamptonshire, will be operated by a new charitable company from 12 June, following SOLL Daventry's decision to withdraw.
The town's leisure centre and sports park, the New Street tennis courts and pitches at Fishponds, Headlands and The Hollows are all owned by Daventry District Council (DDC) and will be operated by the new company. DDC managing director Simon Bovey said: "From 12 June, a new company will operate the leisure centre and other facilities on the council's behalf and we will work in partnership with this new provider as we have done so with SOLL over the past three years.
"We will confirm further details about the new provider in due course, but at this stage can assure residents that it is a charitable company that will be working within the aim of delivering and improving leisure services in Daventry." Last month, the BBC reported that SOLL Daventry had decided to pull out of operating the venues due to "economic conditions" after three years in charge.
