New majority shareholder for Sunderland AFC
American businessman, Ellis Short, has reportedly taken controlling interest of Sunderland Football Club.
According to The Telegraph, the Dallas-based tycoon has become the major shareholder in the Drumaville Consortium, a group led by current chair Niall Quinn, which bought the club in 2006. It is believed that Short, who is the co-founder of private equity house, Lone Star Funds, has acquired a 30 per cent stake in the Premier League club.
Sunderland has now become the fourth English football club to have an American as its majority shareholder, joining Aston Villa, Liverpool and Manchester United.
