New leisure opportunities for Huddersfield
Kirklees Council has announced the launch of a number of new leisure opportunities for the residents in the Leeds Road Corridor area of Huddersfield, West Yorkshire.
An outdoor gym has been created on an area of unused land at Leeds Road Sports Complex and features a jogging track with 14 pieces of equipment for all ages and abilities. Elsewhere, the £50,000 River Colne Canoe Launch Scheme has been unveiled to provide new facilities for Pennine Canoe Club and a weir for more experienced paddlers.
It follows a legal agreement with Yorkshire Water and the Environment Agency to enable the Directorate for Children and Young People to use the site for the next decade. Other improvements include the creation of a new, traffic-free lane for cyclists and horse riders and the Kilner Bank Heathland Trail, which is due to be completed by August.
Kirklees Council cabinet member for regeneration Peter Mcbride said: "This development not only improves the environment but will lead to the area being more widely used for leisure purposes."
