New garden for Carisbrooke Castle
English Heritage (EH) has announced that a new Edwardian-style garden will open this summer at Carisbrooke Castle near Newport, Isle of Wight, in a bid to celebrate the role of Queen Victoria's daughter as the island's governor.
Developed in partnership with BBC Gardeners' World present, Chris Beardshaw, the garden incorporates period plants, fruit trees and a fountain as part of a design based on the layout of Princess Beatrice's original private garden. The garden has also been developed to complement the Victorian garden at Osbourne House near East Cowes, which is also maintained and managed by EH.
Other recent improvements at Carisbrooke Castle have included a new visitor reception, a new shop and new interpretation of the site.
