New Wales theatre programme unveiled
National Theatre Wales (NTW) has launched its inaugural programme of English language theatre productions to be held at different venues across Wales each month.
Forming part of the One Wales initiative, the company's artistic director John E McGrath announced plans to stage shows that incorporated the best in Welsh writing, performing and directing talent between March 2010 and April 2011. The first show as part of NTW's new programme - A Good Night Out in the Valleys - will be staged at five separate venues across South Wales between 11-27 March 2010.
NTW's programme, which will receive funding worth £3m over the next three years from the Welsh Assembly Government, will also include the Debate and Respond schemes designed to interact with audiences and create new work based around contemporary issues. Welsh heritage minister Alun Ffred Jones said: "National Theatre Wales have an ambitious programme for their first year, which will attract a new audience and create exciting new works."
