New English volleyball leagues unveiled
National governing body Volleyball England has unveiled a new domestic league structure in a bid to improve the quality of talent and development.
The new men's and women's Super 8s competitions are already underway, with the top eight teams from last year's Division One forming an effective 'premier league' for the sport. Volleyball England revealed that the creation of the Super8s had also been motivated by a need for a marketable product amid an increase in demand and a growing profile.
The competitions will feature new playoffs and finals, with teams playing home and away matches before league positions decide the playoff competitors. Final positions will determine by both the Stage One league standings and Stage Two playoff results. Volleyball England president Richard Callicott said: "We hope the Super 8's will provide excellent volleyball for players, spectators and sponsors as well as developing players, coaches and referees in a competitive environment."
