NOC pledges support for government sport and fitness campaign
By Sarah Todd
The National Olympic Committee (NOC) has decided to unanimously endorse the government’s Get Britain Fit for the Olympics campaign.
Chair of the British Olympic Association (BOA), Lord Colin Moynihan, said: “This agenda can lead to a long term legacy for sport throughout the UK. The Olympic governing bodies and the BOA look forward to working with the government to ensure this agenda is delivered in full.”
The main tenants of the national campaign include: to offer children four hours of school sport by 2010; to have every school playing competitively in local leagues; to increase sports volunteering in schools and communities and to ensure that every school has access to playing fields and better sports facilities.
