Mandarin Oriental launches picnics with butler service
London’s Mandarin Oriental hotel, situated opposite Hyde Park, has introduced a selection of homemade hampers with optional butler service for guests to picnic in style.
Hamper prices begin at £60, based on two people sharing and there are a number of different menus to choose from, which must be booked at least 24 hours in advance.
Created by Mandarin’s executive chef, David Nicholls, choice menu treats include poached lobster, fillet of beef Wellington, summer puddings and – of course – strawberries and cream.
Champagne, white wine and water are also included while, if guests don’t want to picnic in the park or are attending a seasonal event, they can order a hamper and limousine with concierge instead.
Mandarin butlers are available on request to provide service throughout for an additional fee and can be requested to carry and arrange the picnic at a location of the guest’s choice. Afternoon tea can also be included for an extra charge, which includes traditional sandwiches, pastries, scones and rose petal jam.
Hampers will be available until 20 September 2003 and reservations can be made through the hotel’s on-line reservations service.
The 200-room, Hyde Park Mandarin Oriental is part of the Mandarin Oriental hotel and resort group which operates 18 luxury hotels in eleven countries across the world.
Five new Mandarin Oriental hotels are also currently under development, in New York (late 2003 opening), Washington DC (2004), Hong Kong (2005), Tokyo and Boston (both 2006). Details: www.mandarinoriental.com
