Manchester United doubles profits
Manchester United Football Club has been one of the beneficiaries of the swelling sports economy, as net income doubled in the year ending 30 June to £42.3m, compared to £21.6m in the previous year.
Revenue was boosted by winning the Premier League for the ninth time in 15 seasons, getting to the semi final of the Champions League and reaching the FA Cup Final.
Other contributing factors to the increased profits were media rights sales outside the UK, sales from Nike merchandise, a shirt sponsorship deal with American International Group and the television channel MUTV.
CEO, David Gill, said this is a remarkable set of results and positions the club as a true leader in world sports.
