Man wins massive payout for waterpark accident
A man in British Columbia, Canada, has been awarded CAN$488,000 (US$376,400, £255,700, 302,800 euro) in compensation for an accident at the Cultus Lake Waterpark.
Robert Reimer was in the queue for the Valley of Fear slide on a trip with his family in August 2003, when a plastic pipe fell from 22m-high platform and hit him in the head, cutting it.
As a result, Mr Reimer suffered a “mild traumatic brain injury, mechanical neck strain, myofacial pain secondary to the mechanical neck strain, bilateral inferior brachial plexus syndrome and adjustment disorder with anxiety and depressive features”, according to the case notes.
Consequently, Mr Reimer is apparently suffering from “ongoing symptoms of mental confusion and personality change due to his anxiety disorder”.
Justice Harry Slade, of the British Columbia Supreme Court awarded the money to compensate for Mr Reimer’s loss of earnings and medical bills.
At the time of press, Cultus Lake had not responded to a request for a statement.
