Lord’s unveils masterplan for £200m revamp
Lord’s, the historic London cricket ground, is to receive a £200m overhaul that will take more than 10 years to complete.
A list of architects will be invited to tender their designs for the revamp of the 220-year-old ground, which will involve the replacement of five stands.
Other features at the new-look Lord’s could include a hotel, an international ‘cricket laboratory’ with sports injury clinic, and retractable floodlights.
David Batts, the masterplan project director at Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), which owns Lord’s, said: “We have recently completed the analysis of the research we carried out among MCC members on their priorities and preferences for the future of Lord’s.
“Nearly half of MCC’s membership responded and there was overwhelming backing to support the improvement of Lord’s for future generations of cricketers, cricket fans and of course, members.
“To achieve this, we are in the process of appointing a masterplan architect who will be tasked with preparing a development plan, which will provide an overall approach to the design and layout for the entire Lord’s site.”
Lord’s is often referred to as “the home of cricket”, and is in fact home to Middlesex County Cricket Club, the England and Wales Cricket Board and the European Cricket Council.
